Like other towers in the region, it was ordered to be built around 1588 by Luis Bravo de Laguna, director of fortifications during the mandate of Felipe II. The Guadalmesí tower (also called Guadalmedina) is a beacon tower located on the north shore of the Strait of Gibraltar, in the municipality of Tarifa, included within the Natural Park of the Strait and declared an asset of cultural interest (BIC) on 29 June 1985.
